How should the authorities balance the need to protect lives with the growing call to prop up the economy so that jobs and livelihoods aren’t lost in the process?
For most of the lives and livelihoods that are saved, the citizens of this country should praise the Health and Defence authorities who played a role beyond the call of duty, in par with excellence. The Police, on the other hand, have failed to keep up standards in discipline, law and order – most of all ensure righteous behaviour of majority of the public. Hence, this is the very cause that will decide whether lives and livelihoods will be safely sustained. It is also the cause for many violation issues that trigger the spread of the virus – especially because many of these illegal alcohol producers and drug smugglers were in the safe cover-up of (some) police.
It should be a personal choice. In NZ we are about to relax a 28 day almost complete lock down. I am back at work as I work by myself but will not meet with clients. However, some are anxious to get back to work. The ultimate choice is how you would answer to a highwayman – It’s either your money or your life. Is it better to be poor and alive or rich and dead?
