Finnish company AW Energy’s CEO John Liljelund recently indicated a willingness to share experience and technology to generate power using ocean waves, and support Sri Lanka in this regard – he was speaking on the sidelines of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to Finland to study the technology. He said basic surveys of Sri Lanka’s coastal belt had been completed and that power generation using ocean waves is expected to begin in Sri Lanka by next year. Research has also pointed to the Indian Ocean as a potential zone for generating power through ocean waves.
