AQUAFRESH

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF TRUST, PURITY AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

Established in 2001, Aquafresh has grown into one of Sri Lanka’s most recognised bottled drinking water brands, built on a clear promise: bringing nature to life. Over the past 25 years, the company has consistently delivered safe, premium quality and trusted drinking water to households, institutions and corporate customers across the country.

This milestone reflects not only longevity in a competitive sector but also a sustained commitment to quality, innovation and responsible business practices.

From its inception – and staying true to its vision – Aquafresh has positioned itself as a company dedicated to enhancing healthy living through nature’s resources. The brand has continuously evolved its operations to ensure that every drop of water meets safety and quality standards.

With certifications aligned to recognised benchmarks such as Sri Lanka Standards (SLS), Health Ministry registration, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) quality systems, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliance, Aquafresh has strengthened its credibility as a trusted provider in Sri Lanka’s bottled drinking water sector, supported by a fully automated, state-of-the-art modern manufacturing facility.

Over the years, Aquafresh has also received several industry accolades including the UN Water for Life Best Practices Award (2005), National Business Excellence Award (NBEA) (2016), Corporate Excellence Award at UN World Water Day (2018) and Superior Taste Award presented by the International Taste and Quality Institute (iTQi) (2018), thereby reinforcing its reputation for excellence.

Operating under two key brand names, Aquafresh and Alkafresh, the company has developed a diverse portfolio of products designed to meet varying consumer needs.

This includes 20 litre bottled water for household and office use, a range of smaller polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles from 500 millilitres (ml) to five litres (l), and specialised alkaline drinking water products available in 500ml and 5l bottle sizes. Each product is developed with a focus on purity, hydration and convenience, ensuring accessibility for a wide customer base.

In addition to its core bottled water offerings, Aquafresh has expanded into eco-conscious product innovation through its glass bottle range. The Live Sri Lanka collection in 500ml glass bottles highlights not only the purity of water but also the richness of Sri Lanka’s heritage, wildlife and natural landscapes. This initiative reflects the brand’s effort to align product development with culture and environmental responsibility.

Beyond packaged water, Aquafresh has also built a strong presence in water dispenser solutions. The company offers a range of dispensers along with maintenance and after sales services.

As industries increasingly adapt to digital transformation, Aquafresh has taken early steps towards modernisation. The company introduced a paperless and digitised delivery system supported by unique customer assigned QR codes.

This system has improved operational efficiency, enhanced traceability and streamlined customer interactions. It also reflects Aquafresh’s broader vision of integrating technology into everyday service delivery to improve convenience and transparency.

Sustainability; social responsibility; and strong environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) standards have become central pillars of Aquafresh’s long-term strategy. In response to global environmental challenges, the company has initiated a gradual transition toward more sustainable packaging solutions including increased use of glass bottles.

Additionally, efforts are underway to modernise its logistics fleet by incorporating electric vehicles, reducing the environmental footprint of its operations. The conversion of delivery systems to a digital platform is also an initiative aimed at minimising the carbon footprint through a paperless delivery system.

The company actively engages in environmental and community focussed initiatives including beach cleanup programmes, plastic collection drives and the installation of bottle collection bins in selected locations. These efforts aim to encourage responsible disposal and recycling of PET materials, contributing to a cleaner environment.

Aquafresh has also extended its support to educational institutions and underserved communities through donations and outreach programmes. During World Water Day initiatives, the company reinforced its commitment to sustainability through programmes such as Root for Resources where trees were distributed to customers to promote environmental awareness and action.

These initiatives reflect a broader mission that goes beyond commercial operations, focussing on long-term societal impact.

At the core of Aquafresh’s success are its people and operational excellence. The company’s structured teams – from customer care and logistics to technical service, maintenance and administrative operations – ensure seamless service delivery and responsiveness to customer needs.

This strong internal framework has enabled Aquafresh to maintain reliability and consistency over the years, even as market demands continue to evolve.

As Aquafresh marks its 25th anniversary this year, it stands as a brand that has not only adapted to change but also helped shape industry standards in Sri Lanka’s bottled drinking water sector. Its journey reflects a balance between commercial growth, innovation and environmental stewardship.

Looking ahead, Aquafresh remains committed to its role as a responsible industry leader with a continued focus on sustainability, digital transformation and innovation. To meet growing demand and serve a broader community across Sri Lanka, the company is expanding its production capacity and operational capabilities while continuing to deliver safe, trusted drinking water.

After 25 years, Aquafresh’s story is not merely one of business growth but trust earned, standards upheld, and a vision consistently aligned with healthier living and a more sustainable future for Sri Lanka.
