The 2nd H V Perera QC Memorial Arbitration Moot (the Victors Moot) is scheduled to be held on 22-24 March 2019. Mooting is an extracurricular activity at many law schools in which participants take part in simulated court or arbitration proceedings, usually involving drafting memorials or memoranda and participating in oral argument. Arbitration is a legal technique used to resolve disputes outside of courts; wherein the parties to a dispute refer it to one or more persons (the “arbitrators”), by whose decision (the “award”) they agree to be bound.

It is hoped that the knowledge and experience gained by future Sri Lankan arbitrators and attorneys through the moot will strengthen the legal framework of Sri Lanka by promoting dispute resolution and thereby facilitate long term economic growth. The event also hopes to provide a foundation for law students across the globe to develop their arbitration skills. Around 80 contestants representing law schools and universities across the Asian region including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Thailand and Hong Kong are expected to take part.
