The 72nd Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72) was inaugurated at the UN Headquarters on 12 September, and the General Debate is set to open on 19 September emphasising the theme of ‘Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet.’

President Maithripala Sirisena arrived in New York to attend the 72nd General Assembly on 18 September. He was welcomed by representatives of the Sri Lankan Ambassador’s Office in New York. The president will address the General Assembly on the evening of 19 September.
