SRILANKAN AVIATION COLLEGE

SriLankan Aviation College (SLAC), the training arm of the national carrier SriLankan Airlines, stands as a beacon of opportunity in the country’s aviation industry. SLAC embodies a commitment to excellence, innovation and nurturing aspiring aviation professionals.

With a legacy spanning over three decades in not only aviation related training but also a range of corporate training solutions for top airlines, corporates and organisations around the globe, SLAC has continuously evolved to meet the dynamic demands of the industry, offering tailor-made training solutions and pioneering initiatives that shape the future of aviation in the region.

SLAC’s integrated approach to education combines cutting-edge technology, experienced instructors who are actively engaged in the field and a customer-centric ethos to deliver world-class training programmes to aspiring professionals worldwide. With a focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, SLAC prepares students to excel in diverse roles within the industry.

The college’s portfolio encompasses a diverse range of training programmes designed to cater to the evolving needs of the aviation industry. From cabin crew training to aircraft maintenance, ticketing, personal grooming and etiquette to air traffic control, SLAC offers comprehensive programmes that equip students with the skills and knowledge required to thrive.

The institution’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, including modern simulators and training devices, ensures that students receive hands-on experience that mirrors real world scenarios.

At the heart of SLAC’s mission lies a commitment to excellence and innovation. The institution aspires to be the most preferred training partner and catalyst of Asia’s aviation training industry. With a relentless focus on quality, SLAC seeks to continuously raise the standards of aviation training, driving growth and innovation across the industry.

SLAC General Manager Primal De Silva says: “SriLankan Aviation College constantly endeavours to expand its offering in keeping with global standards, thereby catering to the diverse learning needs of future aviation professionals. Going beyond the mere duty of producing graduates, we not only empower them with knowledge but also shape personalities and inculcate in them the right attitude to face future challenges. Our stature as the training arm of the national carrier has placed our students at an advantage, being able to experience firsthand the industry dynamics.”

SLAC’s commitment to excellence is further underscored by its partnerships with leading international organisations and regulatory bodies. SriLankan Aviation College is the country’s sole International Air Transport Association (IATA) Regional Training Partner (RTP), solidifying its position as a leader in aviation education in the region – especially given that it’s one of only seven such training centres in Asia.

Accredited by esteemed institutions such as the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), SLAC adheres to the highest standards of quality and professionalism. Through these affiliations, SLAC ensures that its training programmes remain relevant and globally recognised.

Primal De Silva adds: “We take great pride in shaping the future of the country’s youth who aspire to excel in the field of aviation and we’re confident that our efforts will result in portraying Sri Lanka as a hub for aviation professional education in the long run.”

SLAC has partnered with the Department of Aeronautical Engineering of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in the degree programme Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Aircraft Maintenance. The college has also partnered with the British Way English Academy in extending its grooming and social etiquette arm.

Meanwhile, in collaboration with the British College of Applied Studies (BCAS), SLAC has extended its reach to the northern and eastern regions, ensuring that aspiring aviation professionals across the country have access to world-class training. Through this partnership, BCAS campuses in Jaffna and Kalmunai now offer a range of programmes delivered by SLAC’s expert panel of aviation trainers.

In addition, SLAC boasts a partnership with the renowned Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, marking a pivotal point in aviation education. The affiliation with the university enhances the accessibility of prestigious aviation qualifications and offers students the opportunity to complete their programmes within Sri Lanka.

Moreover, SLAC obtained National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 6 status under the NVQ framework, further strengthening national recognition for programmes offered by the college.

Meanwhile, SLAC is engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Higher Education to elevate the academy to a degree awarding higher education institute under the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is also on the cusp of acquiring ‘Approved Training Organisation’ (ATO) status from the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.

SriLankan Aviation College also recently entered an MOU to strengthen its collaboration with Sri Lanka Air Force in aviation training. This landmark partnership marks a first of its kind in the country in the amalgamation of resources of two behemoths in aviation training.

As Sri Lanka’s premier aviation training institution, SLAC remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence, innovation and professionalism. By equipping students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed, SLAC is not only shaping the future of aviation but also empowering individuals to reach new heights of success.

In a rapidly evolving industry, SLAC stands as a testimony to the power of education, dedication and unwavering pursuit of excellence.
