Sri Lanka records lower tea production in November 2019

Tea production in Sri Lanka declined by 3.6 percent while exports increased by 2.8 percent in November 2019, according to a report by the Tea Exporters Association.

The report indicates a marginal gain of 0.5 million kilogrammes (kg) in cumulative production from January to November in 2019 compared to a total volume of 277.6 million kg reported for the corresponding period of the previous year.

On a cumulative basis, medium grown tea production had increased while low grown tea remained static and high grown tea declined compared to 2018.

Furthermore, it is reported that Turkey was the largest importer of Sri Lankan tea in the period reviewed, followed by Iraq and Russia.
