TAXI NETWORK The Cybercab is Tesla’s latest reveal, which marks a bold leap into the future of autonomous transportation. Unveiled by CEO Elon Musk at a glittering event, this sleek two-door self-driving taxi is set to enter production by 2026.

With an expected price tag of under US$ 30,000, the Cybercab aims to make autonomous transportation affordable and widely accessible.

Musk’s vision for the Cybercab includes a fully autonomous driving experience without pedals or a steering wheel, relying solely on AI powered cameras.

At the same event, Tesla also introduced the Robovan, which is designed for autonomous mass transit and capable of carrying up to 20 passengers. These vehicles are part of Musk’s broader ambition for a ‘robotaxi’ network where Tesla owners can potentially put their cars to work while they rest.

But despite the company’s promise of a ‘glorious future,’ competitors such as Waymo and Zoox are already testing self-driving vehicles in San Francisco and Las Vegas.

That said, Tesla’s focus on camera based AI sets it apart from its rivals who use light detection, and ranging (LiDAR) and radar for navigation. And its vision remains largely speculative so only time will tell whether Cybercab can deliver on its ambitious promises.
