As digital transformation takes over every sphere of living, it has become imperative to either adapt or risk being left behind – and with the aim of digitising its economy, Sri Lanka has now introduced digitalised land deeds, as well as birth and death certificates.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe noted that the new system will be free from third party intervention and postal delays, thereby saving time and resulting in greater efficiency.

He also stated: “Introducing computerisation of this section began with discussions in this regard in 2016 and I had advised the officers concerned to ensure we implement the new system by 2019. I am happy to note that we are able to move with confidence to a better and fruitful tomorrow. The computerisation of many departments including the Income Tax Department has begun. We hope to implement computerisation before the end of the year.”
