Q: How important is corporate respect in today’s business environment, in your assessment?
A: Corporate respect or integrity has become fundamental at present in the face of a never-ending sequence of events that portray unethical corporate behaviour scattered around the globe – that too in glaring detail.

Whether it’s a matter of dealing with your business partners, staff or customers, or making decisions pertaining to the environment, corporates have a responsibility to uphold integrity.

In reality however, corporates may try to cut corners or gouge customers to make a quick buck; but such entities will eventually realise that this is unsustainable in the long run.  Moreover, it would not only be a futile attempt but one that is lethal to the company’s survival. Such tales of corporate downfalls are not unheard of.

Therefore, the only pathway to thriving in today’s commercial landscape is to serve your customers and business partners with respect first; and in return, you will be rewarded with their loyalty and business. A mutually beneficial strategy concerning everyone involved has yet to fail.

Q: And how does innovation help corporates to thrive in the ‘new normal’ and build their image?
A: There will be a new normal occurring every few years – particularly with the ongoing digitalisation of the economy.

Established corporates cannot rest on their laurels; instead, they must seek to continuously innovate to stay ahead of competitors and new market entrants or they will perish.

However, innovation for the sake of innovation is fruitless. Therefore, innovation should aspire to address customers’ real concerns and future needs.

Such needs are continually changing, which calls for organisations to remain at the forefront of the advancing market as torchbearers for new products, services, solutions and methods of operating.

Only such a modus operandi will enable companies to build their corporate image in the marketplace with an esteemed reputation for forward-thinking and agility.

Q: In your view, how does respect embedded in the workplace create respect for a company?
A: Garnering corporate respect is the responsibility of all stakeholders of a company.

These stakeholders must remain mindful of how they could contribute to this equation, and embrace the most effective methods to inculcate strong and positive relationships with their subordinates, managers, customers, business partners and suppliers.

Every element of the organisation should attain cohesiveness, the first step to which is treating each other with due respect. We should always seek win-win arrangements that demonstrate respect. Such a philosophy aids the development of motivated and efficient employees.

Q: How does corporate respect help businesses mitigate the fallout from the pandemic?
A: It has been especially important as overall corporate respect is vital for us to manage this pandemic and the ensuing crisis that is affecting everyone.

This is the time for an organisation to care for the wellbeing of all its stakeholders including customers to ensure they remain safe – and in our case, that they’re able to maintain their lines of communication and information during this crisis.

Q: How can corporate leadership affect business reputation?
A: As the saying goes, corporate leadership sets the tone for the rest of the business.

In this way, leadership creates an ideal example of how all stakeholders must be treated.

This goes a long way in shaping how employees should conduct stakeholder management. In short, a top-down approach is usually adopted in business.

In a highly competitive environment and overcast economic climate, maintaining corporate respect is of fundamental importance for a sustainable future. Hutch asserts that multiple elements depict a corporate that’s known for its outstanding reputation, which includes treating stakeholders with respect anderadicating unethical business practices that could jeopardise survival.
