Q: Could you provide a brief overview of Hayleys Lifesciences?

Hayleys Lifesciences provides the entire gamut of solutions from importation to installation to commissioning and testing equipment, pre and after sales technical consultancy, consumables and maintenance and repair services, with a 24 hour breakdown service for immediate attendance.

From MRIs and CTs, to CR and DR systems, laser films and an array of radiology protection accessories, we offer medical imaging equipment catering to the radiology sector, having carved out a substantial market share in Sri Lanka.

Hayleys Lifesciences’ extracorporeal shock wave lithotripter (ESWL) machines cater to urological patients in Sri Lanka, offering a noninvasive medical procedure for kidney stone management.

Q: What are your company’s strengths in the analytical segment?

A: Hayleys Lifesciences provides a comprehensive range of solutions from high-tech analytical equipment and general lab equipment, to chemicals and other consumables, from trusted Japanese, German and US brands in its analytical portfolio.

With a 65 percent market share for high-tech instruments, Hayleys Lifesciences is positioned as the market leader in the pharma industry, serving almost all local pharma manufacturers. Similarly, we are also leading the export spice sector with our analytical instruments portfolio.

One of our key achievements is the establishment of a state-of-the-art laboratory at a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, comprising a high-tech instrumental lab and microbiology lab.

This one of a kind lab has been equipped with ultra-modern facilities and cutting-edge analytical instruments to become arguably one of the most advanced testing facilities in the country.

Moreover, Hayleys Lifesciences has supplied the entire gamut of general laboratory equipment, laboratory furniture and glassware.

Q: Can you give an overview of your genetics business – and what are your company’s future plans?

A: By leveraging innovative next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, we are driving advancements in the biological research sphere across genomics, DNA and RNA.

Most notably, we undertook COVID-19 surveillance for the first time in Sri Lanka in the Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology Unit of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura to monitor and detect developments in the COVID-19 pathogen’s strains through sequencing.

Ultimately, in a bid to progressively strengthen this surveillance for antimicrobial drug resistant infections such as acute respiratory diseases, further projects are now ongoing at local universities in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. By testing rare, infectious diseases for epidemic surveillance, we are keen to drive progress in future academic research.

The country’s pharma industry fulfils a mere 17 percent of demand. With a growth potential up to 45 percent, Hayleys Lifesciences is proud to be fulfilling this national need, and is exploring prospects to venture into the oncology field and drive better health outcomes regionally.
