CREVATY CONSULTING

Q: You were recently named Outstanding Global Achiever of the Year 2026 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka). What does this recognition mean to you?

A: Receiving this recognition from the institution that shaped my professional journey is deeply meaningful. Coming from a modest background in Sri Lanka, it is something I never imagined achieving.

I see this award as a reflection of the guidance and support I have received from my family, mentors, colleagues and business partners. More importantly, it reinforces my belief that Sri Lankan professionals can build internationally competitive businesses.

This recognition is both an honour and a responsibility to contribute further to the profession and the next generation.

Q: What experiences at BDO Sri Lanka, KPMG Kuwait and as an entrepreneur most influenced your professional outlook and ambitions?

A: My professional foundation was built at BDO Sri Lanka where I was fortunate to begin my career under Sujeewa Rajapakse and later Ashane Jayasekara. Their mentorship, leadership and emphasis on professional values helped shape my career.

Moving to KPMG Kuwait broadened my international exposure, allowing me to work with diverse clients and understand global business environments.

Equally important was my involvement in student leadership at CA Sri Lanka, which developed my confidence, communication and leadership skills. Together, these experiences gave me the foundation to pursue entrepreneurship.

Q: Which milestones have defined your career and which accountancy skills have proved most valuable as an international entrepreneur?

A: Becoming a Chartered Accountant, serving as President of the CA Sri Lanka Students’ Society, moving internationally and cofounding Crevaty (a name derived from Create Value to Society) in 2017 were defining milestones.

My accountancy background provided financial discipline, analytical thinking, risk management and strong ethical foundations.

However, entrepreneurship taught me that technical competence alone is insufficient. Communication, relationship building, adaptability and the ability to inspire people are equally important for sustainable business growth.

Q: What opportunity did you see in the market when cofounding Crevaty in 2017, and what was your vision for the firm?

A: Sri Lanka has demonstrated its ability to deliver world-class products and professional services. While we have developed successful international brands, there is potential to build many more, particularly in professional services.

When we founded Crevaty in 2017, the initial entrepreneurial vision and strategic direction came from Sujeewa Appuhamy. Together with Jude Paththamperume, we shared the ambition of building a Sri Lankan founded professional services brand with its own international identity.

Our complementary strengths in strategy, operations, international expansion and brand building have helped turn that shared vision into reality.

Q: Given Crevaty’s expansion across several markets, what have been the key drivers of growth, and how have you adapted to different markets and client needs?

A: Our growth has been driven by client relationships, professional expertise, adaptability and a clear international strategy.

We operate through three business models: directly managed consulting practices in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC); outsourcing partnerships in developed markets such as the UK, Australia and New Zealand; and franchise expansion in emerging markets.

We are exploring further GCC expansion including Saudi Arabia and Qatar while evaluating franchise opportunities in India, Bangladesh and selected African countries.

This approach enables us to adapt to different markets while leveraging Sri Lankan professional capabilities.

Q: How is Crevaty adapting to changing client expectations, regulatory requirements and demands for greater efficiency?

A: We believe the future of professional services lies in combining technical expertise, technology and internationally connected delivery capabilities.

Crevaty has expanded beyond traditional accounting into taxation, regulatory advisory, business consulting, outsourcing and digital solutions.

By investing in automation, AI and technology enabled services, we aim to improve efficiency and client value as we evolve into a diversified international professional services group.

Q: How can Sri Lankan firms leverage local accounting and finance expertise to build internationally competitive businesses and create value from Sri Lanka?

A: Sri Lanka has proven its ability to compete internationally through talented professionals and successful businesses. However, there is potential to develop more recognised Sri Lankan owned brands, particularly in knowledge based sectors.

In professional services, international affiliations have contributed considerably to developing our capabilities. We should now also encourage entrepreneurs to build their own brands and expand globally.

This requires long-term vision, investment in technology, confidence in our capabilities and the willingness to explore global markets.

At Crevaty, we hope to demonstrate what a Sri Lankan founded professional services brand can achieve internationally.

Q: What are your priorities for Crevaty’s growth, and where do you see the greatest opportunities for the business and Sri Lanka’s professional services sector?

A: Our priority is to build Crevaty into a globally recognised professional services group with strong Sri Lankan roots. We plan to strengthen our GCC consulting presence, expand outsourcing into developed markets and establish franchise partnerships in emerging economies.

Beyond geographical expansion, we aim to build an institution with strong corporate governance, sustainable growth and the ability to attract long-term investment as we scale.

Ultimately, our ambition is to create opportunities for Sri Lankan professionals while demonstrating that competitive professional services brands can emerge from the island.
