The UN Global Compact (UNGC) is one of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiatives. It encourages businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report their implementation. The UN Global Compact Network – Sri Lanka is the local initiative to ensure the sustainable development of Sri Lanka’s business sector. It also aims to have businesses play a larger role in realising the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals agenda.

Established in 2006 and incorporated in 2011, the UNGC Network – Sri Lanka includes a total of 40 Sri Lankan companies, and joins over 9,500 companies in this inter-sectoral and international movement. Members follow 10 guiding principles to connect business practices with labour and human rights, the environment and anti-corruption.

According to Chairman of the UNGC Network – Sri Lanka Dilhan Fernando, “business as a force for good that does no harm to the societal and environmental fabric of Sri Lanka has more opportunity versus a downside.”
