Q: ACL Cables is consistently featured on the list of the ‘most awarded’ entities in Sri Lanka… To what do you attribute this achievement?
A: Although there are many reasons attributable to our success in winning a host of international and Sri Lankan awards, two reasons stand out.
The first and most important is our passion to deliver cables of consistently superior quality. And secondly, it is our continuous acquisition of world-class technology through research and development – delighting our customers with innovative product solutions.
This has been possible due to the dedication of our valued employees throughout six decades of successful operations.
We take pride in the ethical values instilled in us by our founder, which have been cherished and followed by the next generation. One of ACL’s core values is built on the foundation of doing right by our customer and the country. This is an essential part of our DNA, and forms the cornerstone of our decision making and business relationships.
Our early collaboration with Japanese expertise in the fields of cable manufacturing technology, machinery and engineering know-how provided us with a foundation of quality, which has been nurtured and enhanced over the years.
Another noteworthy milestone is our joint venture with Nokia of Finland’s cable solutions to pioneer the manufacture of XLPE insulated aerial bundled cables for the first time in South Asia.
The development of a PVC-based fire-retardant cable for the first time in Sri Lanka, using our proprietary formulation, provided safety for Sri Lankan households at an affordable price. Though this was introduced some 20 years ago, up to now, no other manufacturer has been able to introduce a comparable or equivalent cable. In addition to this, our continued drive for innovative excellence saw the introduction of an energy saving cable recently – this was another first for ACL.
Q: What value do awards add to entities operating in today’s business landscape?
A: Firstly, awards are a significant motivator in driving our passion to excel and raise the bar. Awards also give reassurance to our customers that they have made the best choice.
Furthermore, awards boost the confidence of our customers – more importantly, global customers – to pick ACL of Sri Lanka as their preferred supplier over a plethora of suppliers.
Winning the gold award in the extra-large category at the recently concluded National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) Annual Export Awards amply demonstrates ACL’s contribution to bringing in much needed foreign inflows to our motherland.
Q: How can awards and accolades strengthen a corporate’s reputation as a trustworthy brand?
A: Winning both national and international awards immensely enhances the trust and confidence of current, as well as potential, overseas customers. The recognition of ACL by NCE in awarding us the Certificate of Ethical Trading significantly boosts the chances of winning international tenders where such qualifications are factored into the evaluation.
Q: In your view, how do award schemes help to shape diverse industries and sectors in Sri Lanka?
A: Awards and award ceremonies are well publicised in all media. This provides due recognition to the recipients, and acts as a stimulant for others to raise their standards and business practices to higher levels – thereby uplifting the entire industry or sector, and benefitting consumers and the country.
Q: What do corporate awards and accolades mean to employees, both existing and new?
A: As employees are the heart of any enterprise, it is their collective efforts that help the organisation to achieve success and win awards. As such, winning awards has a tremendous impact on employee motivation as it is recognition by an independent external body.
Here at ACL, we take these awards around so that all employees take pride in and are part of the celebration.
Any jobseeker would love to join an award-winning organisation; and that, in turn, helps us at ACL Cables attract the best talent.
