POWERING DREAMS AND UPLIFTING SRI LANKA THE DIMO HUMAN BLUEPRINT

When we think of nation building, the mind frequently drifts to massive concrete structures, heavy machinery and sprawling power lines. Yet, the true heart of any developing nation is not its physical assets but its people. Infrastructure only carries real value when it improves human life, sparks opportunity and secures communities.

For over eight decades, DIMO has operated with this exact understanding, transforming from a traditional engineering company into a dedicated nation builder that focusses heavily on the human element of development.

From introducing clean energy to communities to bringing world-class healthcare to public hospitals, DIMO builds the everyday systems that uplift the quality of life across Sri Lanka.

Consider the daily rhythm of public life. True progress means ensuring that every citizen has access to basic necessities, starting with clean water and reliable healthcare.

DIMO’s water and fluid management division designs complete turnkey systems that protect community water security. A stand out example is the extensive rehabilitation of the Ambatale Water Treatment Plant. By integrating energy efficient KSB industrial pumps and systems, DIMO stabilised safe drinking water supply for millions of residents in Colombo and its suburbs.

Simultaneously, the company bridges regional gaps through projects such as the Kilinochchi Water Supply Scheme. Utilising pioneering dissolved air flocculation technology, this installation treats and delivers clean water to thousands of northern households daily. The Jaffna Kilinochchi Water Supply and Sanitation Project stands as a monumental engineering endeavour designed to meet urgent national priorities in utility modernisation.

In the sphere of public health, DIMO Healthcare continually strengthens local medical frameworks by introducing advanced global technologies to public teaching hospitals.

A recent milestone includes the installation of the sophisticated Artis Zee Floor Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) system by Siemens Healthineers at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital (CSTH) in Kalubowila. This cutting-edge technology gives interventional radiologists exceptional, real-time imaging to perform complex, minimally invasive vascular procedures.

By embedding these elite systems into public healthcare spaces, DIMO ensures that everyday citizens receive the lifesaving medical care they deserve.

DIMO’s impact on human wellbeing also reaches out into the environment and community lifestyle spaces. As Sri Lanka transitions towards a greener future and global parameters shift toward sustainability, nation building requires clean energy integration.

A landmark achievement in DIMO’s renewable portfolio is the solar power project in Galle, comprising four solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 18 MW. This investment contributes over 33.6 million kWh of renewable electricity annually to Sri Lanka’s national grid while reducing carbon emissions by approximately 12,945 tonnes each year.

In addition to the above, the 5MW solar power plant in Anuradhapura generates over 9.4 million kWh annually to power rural homes across the region.

Meanwhile, DIMO enriches the nation’s vibrant sports culture. The company pioneered sustainable sports engineering by installing Sri Lanka’s first ever LED lighting system at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium and followed this by modernising the iconic R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium with a state-of-the-art LED floodlighting system.

These advancements reduce energy consumption while allowing families and fans across the country to share in the unity and excitement of world-class sporting events.

Even the simple act of commuting to work or travelling home is quietly supported by DIMO. The railway network is the daily lifeline for hundreds of thousands of Sri Lankans. To prevent disruptions, DIMO works around the clock to support Sri Lanka Railway’s (SLR) MTU engine fitted locomotive operations with prompt technical service and genuine parts.

Backed by a 24/7 after sales service network, DIMO’s technicians work behind the scenes to keep coaches running smoothly, ensuring commuters get home to their families safely and on time. This unwavering focus on human progress is guided by a corporate culture that values societal wellbeing far above standard commercial returns.

Expressing this deep sense of national responsibility, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DIMO Gahanath Pandithage explains: “Behind every solution delivered stands a person with ambition, determination, and responsibility towards their family and community. At DIMO, we see equipment, machinery and after sales as a catalyst for progress that helps businesses build, produce and move industries forward, fuelling dreams and aspirations of the communities we serve through meaningful partnerships.”

“We take immense pride in actively contributing to the building of our nation, seamlessly blending the world’s best technologies with our homegrown local expertise. For us, this enduring national purpose is valued far beyond merely making a profit. When businesses are empowered with the right machinery, world-class innovation and the right support, it strengthens livelihoods, drives enterprise and contributes meaningfully to the growth of industries across Sri Lanka,” he adds.

Ultimately, DIMO’s journey shows that engineering excellence is at its best when it serves a human purpose. By focussing on quality, sustainability and community resilience, DIMO continues to paint a brighter tomorrow for every Sri Lankan.
