The courage to change

The rallying cry on the streets of Sri Lanka following the economic collapse, and overthrow of the president and government, was for ‘change’ aimed primarily at the politicians and systemic corruption.

However, it would be prudent to look inwards to see whether the business community has also reset itself through an honest introspective review.

There are many bad business practices we live with and often turn a blind eye to, such as tax evasion, unethical and unfair practices, pollution, insensitivity to the communities we operate in and a lack of accountability to stakeholders – including shareholders.

Having heard the rallying cry, we need to seize this moment to change from within.
