Q: Could you outline The Privilege Ayurveda Resort’s journey since its inception?
A: We have been in operation for over 19 years now and began as the first ‘all-suite’ hotel in Sri Lanka.

Having pioneered the concept of freedom dining, we enabled guests to plan according to their biological clock, and offered fine dining meals ranging from an American breakfast to a five course lunch and seven course dinner.

Foreseeing a change in demand, back in 2011 we pivoted towards offering our hospitality to health and wellness clientele across the world. With this initiative, we set the sector standard once again by establishing the concept of in-house guests only, and moved away from offering fine wines and cigars, to a nonsmoking and non-alcohol serving resort that  provides authentic herbal medicine and treatment.

We have carried out several refurbishments over the years – one as recently as in 2020 – and introduced a new category of super deluxe rooms.

Q:
So what makes your resort unique and helps it stand out in the sector?
A: What make us unique to our guests from around the world is the privacy and unparalleled care that we offer during their stay.

Designed by a protégé of Geoffrey Bawa, the property is luxuriously built in a seaside setting along the southern coast of Wadduwa on a 3.5 acre chemical free garden – one that welcomes 22 varieties of birds on a given day – and accommodating only a handful of guests at a time, which make the resort the perfect place for relaxation.

Our meals are 100 percent freshly made from natural ingredients through our own vegetation and fruit plantation, and the rest is locally sourced daily. Practising social responsibility, all our staff are recruited from the village, providing them better living standards.

The hotel kitchen doesn’t use microwaves, deep freezers or bottle openers, testifying to the freshness of our food and natural drinks, each individually prepared for guests during their stay.

For most guests, being able to enjoy a natural setting combined with the unparalleled treatment that we offer provides them with an experience of a lifetime. This combination has won us the premier platinum status from Europe’s largest wellness tour operator for five years consecutively.

Q: How would you describe what the resort has to offer?
A: We are pioneers in ‘Ayurveda holidays,’ offering 5,000-year-old treatments and medicine for individuals.

Our hotel’s primary objective is to provide guests with traditional and authentic treatments that balance ‘personal doshas’ in the body, by offering cleansing and detoxing, as well as weight loss programmes recommended by our in-house doctor, which rejuvenate the body and mind.

And our yoga guru offers yoga for stressful minds and manages the ageing process, facilitating a lifestyle change.

At the moment, the hotel offers stays spanning a minimum one night to a maximum of 14 nights, for Sri Lankan and resident visa holders, on a full board basis with a splendid Sri Lankan or Western breakfast, four course lunch and five course dinner, coupled with three daily treatments to help rejuvenate the mind and body.

Located in close proximity to Colombo in Wadduwa and accessible by highway, ‘The Privilege’ makes the perfect destination for a staycation by the beach.
