LEADING LADIES

Q: What is the main challenge facing women who aspire to reach the top in the corporate world?

“There are several challenges due to male dominance at the top, male perceptions of leadership traits, and the constant tradeoffs that one has to make due to the responsibilities of taking care of children and the home. One constantly finds that organisations are less likely to take a risk on women than men with promotions and there is systemic stereotyping due to unconscious biases. However, the biggest challenges are the restrictions women place on themselves. Women need to be comfortable in their own skin – and have their own personal style, and the confidence that their passion and excellence will shine through. We need to believe in ourselves, accept challenges, persevere and most importantly, develop a very thick skin.
