Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera stated that key performance indicators (KPIs) would be implemented by about 10 state owned enterprises (SOEs) in a bid to boost the public sector’s contribution to GDP.

This is in addition to five institutions that signed up to implement KPIs in 2017 including the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Ceylon Electricity Board.

Samaraweera revealed that of about 400 SOEs, 55 contributed 13.2 percent to GDP, amounting to Rs. 1.8 trillion. However, 16 SOEs reported a net loss of 87 billion rupees while returns on assets were 0.6 percent for the year.
