Q: In what ways do awards and accolades enable businesses to strive for betterment, against the backdrop of economic turmoil?

A: Overall, awards and accolades can provide businesses with the motivation, recognition and credibility needed to continue striving for betterment.

Despite facing numerous internal and external shocks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and a subsequent economic downturn, we’ve seen local and global businesses implement various strategies and policies, to mitigate negative impacts and increase profitability.

JAT Holdings is no exception to this. We have demonstrated resilience in these challenging times, and continue to ensure business continuity through strategic planning, diversification and contingency plans.

The resulting recognition from local and international bodies in consumer satisfaction, human resources and performance/business growth has instilled confidence and satisfaction among our stakeholders – including employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders – and validated JAT’s decision making and the effectiveness of our strategies in this difficult time.

Q: How can awards and accolades help organisations to compete on the world stage?

A: Currently, Sri Lanka’s global reputation is somewhat unfavourable. As a 100 per cent Sri Lankan-owned company, certain perceptions about the country can impact our brand reputation as well when we engage with the international community. Despite these challenges, we have successfully competed in and won numerous international awards against countries such as India, China, Vietnam and Malaysia.

By applying for and receiving recognition through awards and accolades on the world stage, we have been able to enhance our brand reputation, establish credibility and build a positive reputation in the eyes of our stakeholders worldwide. It has been especially valuable in the highly competitive industries, sectors and markets in which we operate.

Q: Corporate image, brand presence and awards – how are these interwoven in your organisation?

A: Awards and accolades play an essential role in strengthening corporate image and brand presence. Winning awards reinforces an entity’s reputation as a credible and reputable organisation. For JAT Holdings, awards recognition provides us with a platform to showcase our strengths; differentiate ourselves from competitors; and attract new customers, talent, investors and partners.

In these trying times, there is a yearning for positivity and upliftment. Winning awards provides us with a unique opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our employees, boosting morale and creating a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Furthermore, the act of competing and emerging victorious instils us with a collective sense of encouragement and motivation, fostering a shared belief in our ability to accomplish great things together.

In turn, this achievement has served as a catalyst, motivating us to strive for even greater success in the future.

Q: Awards and accolades: motivation or pressure – what are your views on how entities perceive awards and recognition schemes?

A: Awards and accolades can serve as both motivation and pressure for businesses, depending on how they are perceived. The key to navigating these challenges is for organisations to maintain a balanced perspective.

Rather than viewing awards as the goal, they should focus on achieving tangible results and creating value for their stakeholders. This way, awards can serve as a natural outcome of their success rather than a source of undue pressure.

At JAT Holdings, our focus is not on winning awards. Rather, our culture prioritises the betterment of the business as the primary objective with a commitment to all our stakeholders. We do not impose any pressure on our employees to pursue awards but emphasise the importance of achieving results.

Although we value recognition and celebrate awards, our priority remains accomplishing what is best for the business and our people.

Q: In what ways are awards and recognition schemes helping organisations to attract – and more importantly, retain – employees?

A: Awards can be a powerful tool for companies to attract and retain employees by enhancing their corporate reputation, boosting employee morale and motivation, fostering loyalty and pride, and offering tangible benefits.

The prevailing country condition is marked by a significant brain drain. As a Sri Lankan company that has won both national and international awards however, JAT Holdings has the ability to act as a platform for young professionals, reassuring them that they can achieve success on the international stage while remaining in this country despite the economic challenges.

At JAT Holdings, we celebrate the team members behind each product, offering, innovation and performance capability – as it is their hard work and tireless efforts that deserve the spotlight.

Emerging as a ‘Most Awarded Entity’ in the diversified business sector, which comprises leading blue-chip conglomerates in Sri Lanka, makes all these accolades even more remarkable and is a true testament of the resilience JAT has displayed in turbulent times.
