Modern Pack Lanka wins WorldStar 2025 in Milan, redefining packaging with Sri Lankan innovation backed by SLINTEC technology

In a remarkable leap from local acclaim to global recognition, Modern Pack Lanka Pvt. Ltd, in partnership with SLINTEC, has won the WorldStar Award 2025 in the Sustainable Innovations Category, judged by a panel of 51 international experts. The award, presented by the World Packaging Organisation, is the highest global honor in the packaging industry, with this year’s competition drawing over 550 entries from more than 100 countries. The winning innovation transforms agricultural waste such as corn husk and rice straw into compostable, food-safe packaging. Developed by SLINTEC’s research team and successfully converted into scalable packaging solutions by the R&D team at Modern Pack Lanka, the product minimizes water and chemical usage while replacing conventional plastic and paper-based materials. Made entirely from agro-waste, it represents a truly sustainable packaging breakthrough.

The innovation previously secured Gold at Lanka Star 2024, earning national recognition before capturing global attention in Milan.
