MAIN CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES SRI LANKA’S FIRST INTERNATIONAL MUAY THAI FIGHT NIGHT, COMING TO BMICH ON 9TH AUGUST 2026

A landmark moment for Sri Lankan combat sports: a world-class fight event of a scale and standard never before seen in the country.

Colombo, 26 June 2026 –  MAIN Championship today announced Sri Lanka’s first international Muay Thai fight night, set to take place on 9th August 2026 at BMICH, Colombo. The announcement marks a defining moment for combat sports in this country, the arrival of a full-scale, internationally produced fight event, of a kind Sri Lanka has not seen before, on home soil.

The event will bring together elite local and international athletes across 11 professional bouts before an audience of over 1,000 guests, including 150+ VVIP attendees. It is produced to world-class standards with high-impact LED staging and live-stream broadcast capability, delivered not overseas, but here in Colombo.

MAIN Championship is more than an event. It is a structured platform, one designed to create real, lasting opportunity. The Championship builds competitive pathways for Sri Lankan athletes to train, compete, and earn recognition at an international level. It generates employment across production, media, promotion, and sport management. And it offers young Sri Lankans something increasingly rare: a discipline that rewards hard work, consistency, and the willingness to show up, day after day, with purpose.

The event will feature bouts across two divisions: senior professional fights contested over three rounds of three minutes, and junior bouts over three rounds of two minutes. This dual structure reflects MAIN Championship’s intent to develop the sport from the ground up, giving young athletes a legitimate, sanctioned competitive stage from the earliest stages of their careers.

The Championship carries the endorsement of the Sri Lanka Muay Thai Federation (SLMTF) that affirms the significance of this event for national sport, youth development, and the country’s positioning as a destination for premium sporting tourism.

“MAIN Championship was founded to take Sri Lanka’s combat sports to the global stage. We aim to create a platform that provides real opportunity for athletes and brands to grow consistently through world-class event experiences.”

Lankesh Rupasinghe, Founder, MAIN Championship

Looking ahead, MAIN Championship has confirmed that its next major event will be held overseas — an international staging that will carry Sri Lankan athletes and the MAIN Championship brand beyond the island for the first time.

The 9th August event at BMICH is open to media, sponsors, and the public. Tickets and accreditation information are available through MAIN Championship’s official channels.
