The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) commended Sri Lanka’s postwar peace building and reconciliation efforts in a meeting between Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva Ambassador A. L. A. Azeez and President of the ICRC Peter Maurer.

In particular, Maurer pointed to the establishing and operationalising of the Office on Missing Persons. He went on to commend Sri Lanka for becoming a state party to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention and the Convention on Cluster Munitions, which “sent a positive signal regarding the range of commitments that Sri Lanka has undertaken in humanitarian disarmament.”
