HIGHER WAGES FOR EXPAT WORKERS
The minimum salary of an unskilled worker abroad has been increased to US$ 350 a month and that of a skilled worker to US$ 450 a month by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment.
While Sri Lanka’s 2017 budget proposed the introduction of a contributory pension scheme for overseas employees, the Foreign Employment Bureau has mentioned that it is striving to ensure that Sri Lankans who leave the country are assured of receiving the minimum wage.
