The 2017 annual report of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) reveals that the central government’s debt as a percentage of GDP declined to 77.6 percent by the end of 2017 from 78.8 percent in the previous year.

Meanwhile, former Central Bank governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal recently alleged that Sri Lanka’s debt to GDP ratio had grown in the past three years, from 71.3 percent in 2014.
