Economic boom expected through Jaffna development: PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe alluded to the government’s objective to develop and rebuild Jaffna within the next five years while participating at the inauguration of the first phase of the Myliddy fisheries harbour in the city.

Wickremesinghe invited the people of the north to join hands in the path to development as the government continues its efforts to create a national economic boom.

The first phase of the harbour – completed at a cost of Rs. 150 million – was vested with the public by the prime minister. It is expected to bring many benefits to the fishing community in the north including the introduction of and exposure to modern technology used in fishing and insurance coverage.

While addressing those gathered at the event, the premier explained the government’s plan to emphasise economic development, having already focussed on the country’s social and infrastructural development.

Leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Mavai Senathirajah stated that at least 75 percent of the lands occupied by security forces in the Northern Province had been released to the public and thanked the government for completing the first phase of the Myliddy fisheries harbour in a year.
