The national carrier of Sri Lanka and member of the oneworld alliance will be commencing daily non-stop services to Melbourne from 29 October. This initiative was based on the fact that Australia is home to many Sri Lankans who reside in Melbourne as well as the rising student population in the state of Victoria.

This non-stop service will also facilitate passengers from the Middle East and South Asia seeking onward connectivity via Colombo to and from Australia.

SriLankan Airlines will be operating an Airbus 330-200 aircraft on this route, while code-sharing with Qantas and Malaysia Airlines for flights between Sri Lanka and Australia via Singapore and Kuala Lumpur respectively.
