THE PERFECT PARTNER IN NATION BUILDING

Over the years, DIMO, a prominent diversified conglomerate in Sri Lanka, has emerged as a cornerstone in driving the nation’s development. Guided by its corporate purpose of ‘fuelling dreams and aspirations, ’ DIMO’s contribution has been instrumental in implementing world-class solutions that significantly uplift the lives of Sri Lankans.

The company’s diverse portfolio spans construction, power, water and other critical sectors, demonstrating its dedication to improving the country’s socioeconomic landscape. Through its involvement in national level projects and initiatives, DIMO has solidified its reputation as an organisation committed to shaping a brighter future for Sri Lanka as a nation builder.

WATER One of DIMO’s most significant contributions lies in its transformative role as the reliable contractor for the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB), advancing the nation’s water infrastructure and ensuring sustainable access to safe drinking water for communities across the country. By addressing longstanding challenges and providing innovative solutions, DIMO has ensured that communities across Sri Lanka gain access to clean water.

The Ambatale Energy Saving Project is a prime example of this commitment, where DIMO supplied 17 advanced KSB pumps from Germany to improve the operational efficiency of the water treatment and transmission process, leading to a substantial reduction in the nation’s energy costs and ensuring a more sustainable solution for the urban water supply.

DIMO played an important role in the Ettampitiya Water Supply Project by supplying, installing, testing and commissioning the complete electrical and mechanical systems, underscoring its commitment to enhancing access to safe, clean water for communities in the area. This project now serves thousands of households in the region, offering a dependable source of clean water and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

The Jaffna/Kilinochchi Water Supply and Sanitation Project is currently underway to address the longstanding scarcity of drinkable groundwater in the Jaffna Peninsula. Once completed, the project aims to supply 24,000 cubic metres of treated water daily, significantly improving access to clean water for the communities in the area.

DIMO’s involvement in this project includes the design, installation and integration of a sophisticated electromechanical system with an advanced supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system that centralises monitoring around 20 locations.

By sourcing pumps, control panels and other state-of-the-art equipment from leading brands, DIMO is ensuring seamless and efficient operations that will transform the lives of thousands in the region.

The Kilinochchi Water Supply and Sanitation Project stands as a testament to DIMO’s expertise in civil construction. At the heart of this initiative is the development of a state-of-the-art water treatment plant with a capacity of 4,500 cubic metres a day – the largest such facility constructed by DIMO to date.

The project scope includes the construction of key infrastructure such as an underground reservoir, a pump house, a plant control room, a chlorinator building, filters and flocculators, among other vital components. Designed to provide safe and reliable drinking water, this facility serves the city of Kilinochchi, benefiting households and industries in the region.

Another noteworthy project is the Bulathkohupitiya Integrated Rural Water Supply Scheme Project where DIMO overcame challenging terrain implementing a novel gravity flow method from intake to treatment plant, eliminating the need for pumps. By designing and constructing a package water treatment plant and laying pipelines, and with energy saving pumps, the project achieves long-term energy savings while providing clean water to the community.

This approach not only highlights DIMO’s ingenuity but also reinforces its dedication to sustainable and cost-effective solutions for public benefit. DIMO has also achieved the prestigious C-1 and EM-1 grading, highlighting their ability and suitability for these national projects.

POWER In addition to its contributions to water infrastructure, DIMO has made monumental strides in strengthening Sri Lanka’s power sector. Partnering with Siemens, DIMO has played a critical role in developing 70 percent of the country’s grid infrastructure.

Notable achievements include the construction of key substations such as the 220/132/33 kV Habarana Grid Substation, as well as the augmentation of the Veyangoda Substation and the construction of the Kesbewa Grid Substation. These projects have not only enhanced power distribution but also improved grid stability and energy efficiency.

Furthermore, DIMO’s involvement in establishing 220 kV substations in Kotugoda and Kerawalapitiya, along with the 132/33 kV substation in Chunnakam, underscores the company’s pivotal role in meeting the growing energy demands of the nation.

DIMO was also instrumental in completing medium voltage distribution sub-projects of Package 05 under the Green Power Development and Energy Efficiency Improvement Investment Programme (Tranche 2), aimed at enhancing the national power supply by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

The medium voltage distribution system is the backbone of the power distribution network and interface between the transmission network and the low voltage distribution network, which supplies the consumers.

It is therefore essential to reinforce and develop a healthy distribution system that has the capability of catering to the growing electricity demand of the country while maintaining acceptable reliability and quality above the set operational standards and norms.

The construction, installation, testing, and commissioning by DIMO of 3x50MVAR variable shunt reactors in Anuradhapura and Mannar marks a significant milestone in enhancing Sri Lanka’s grid infrastructure, aimed at improving grid stability.

DIMO’s contributions to Sri Lanka’s energy sector also include landmark projects aimed at advancing renewable energy. Acting as the electrical balance of plant (EBoP) contractor for the Thambapavani Wind Farm, the country’s first wind energy project, DIMO showcased its leadership in sustainable energy solutions.

In the renewable energy sphere, the company is ambitiously targeting an annual power generation of 39,420,000 kWh through the development of 30 MW ground mounted solar projects strategically located in Beliatta, Anuradhapura and Galle.

These projects aim to harness the abundant solar resources in these regions, contributing significantly to the national grid and supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy future.

LIGHTING INFRASTRUCTURE DIMO’s contributions extend beyond power and water infrastructure to encompass critical lighting solutions for some of Sri Lanka’s most iconic projects.

The Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Development Project stands as a testament to DIMO’s expertise in this domain. By supplying, installing and commissioning advanced lighting systems – including taxiway edge and centreline lights, visual docking guidance systems and roadway lighting – DIMO has significantly enhanced the functionality and safety of this vital transportation hub.

The company also provided lighting solutions for the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), Hambantota making a significant impact on the airport infrastructure in the country.

Showcasing its dedication to advancing road infrastructure, the company played a key role in supplying materials, installing, testing and commissioning the complete roadway lighting system for Sri Lanka’s first E-class highway.

The company’s efforts to illuminate sports infrastructure extended to providing LED floodlighting for the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, making it the first stadium in Sri Lanka with LED floodlighting.

DIMO was also instrumental in providing lighting systems for the R. Premadasa and Pallekele International Cricket Stadiums. These projects not only elevate the spectator experience but also demonstrate DIMO’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions for national scale initiatives.
