The Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure has tasked consultancy firm McKinsey & Company with an 11 week assignment to identify opportunities and enablers for promoting Sri Lanka’s digital economy.

The assignment is to strategise the promotion of the digital economy through three key economic sectors – agriculture, tourism and manufacturing – with the expectation of developing flagship programmes to support the initial stage of the Digital Economy Strategy.

At a meeting held at the Policy Development Office, McKinsey & Company presented its inception report and stated that the proposed digital economy could improve Sri Lanka’s GDP by one to three percent in 2019.
