A programme on illegal fishing activities was conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy for the fisher community living in the territorial area of the Southern Naval Command.

The aims of the programme included creating awareness on the detrimental effects to the ocean and coastal belt through practices employed in illegal fishing, laws related to fishing and illegal fishing activities, and penalties for using explosives during fishing.

Further awareness briefings are to be conducted in the following weeks under the guidance of Commander Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul.
