JANATHA STEELS
A TRACK RECORD OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
Janatha Steels is an organisation that has grown tremendously amidst various circumstances encountered throughout its time and continues to evolve even more resiliently. When the company opened its doors to trade in local steel products in 1986, it did not possess the financial strength it does today.
At its inception, Janatha Steels operated with only three staff members. Despite these modest beginnings, the company gradually grew, driven by the competitive hardware supply market and need to meet rising customer demands. Today, Janatha Steels provides direct employment to over 700 workers and indirectly supports thousands of jobs.
By adopting various strategies to outperform local competitors, the organisation gained the trust of customers across the island. Expanding its reach beyond urban areas in Sri Lanka helped build strong customer relationships despite numerous challenges.
In terms of trading, the organisation is one of the largest importers and stockists in Sri Lanka while in manufacturing, it strives to be one of the best in the country. Janatha Steels aims to excel in its present endeavours while prospering in a wide range of activities that will take the company forward as a market leader.
With the primary goal of becoming a market leader in steel and related industries, Janatha Steels diversified into construction, stationery, agriculture, pharmaceutical equipment and automobiles. In 2018, it entered related and unrelated fields through ventures that include Taprobana Island (stationery imports and trading) and Hemka Pharma (pharmaceutical equipment imports and trading).
Additionally, Janatha Steels established Janatha Green Solution for rooftop solar panel supply and installation, Janatha Cement for supplying quality cement to the construction industry, and Janatha Automobiles for international agency representation in agricultural equipment and auto spare parts. It also created Janatha Plantation to expand into coconut and other cash crop plantations.
The company’s three major initiatives today are Janatha Tyre Industries, Janatha Automobiles and Janatha Global Exports. These entities have quickly acquired internationally reputed brands – especially Janatha Global Exports, which has expanded into the export sector, aiming to boost Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
Furthermore, the company is interested in investing in capable channels that will work together with Janatha Steels not only towards a common goal but also individual growth.
Projects such as Port City Colombo, China Harbour Engineering’s infrastructure ventures, Hambantota International Port, ITC Colombo One Hotel and Variosystems demonstrate the significant impact of Janatha Steels’ hardware products.
“We do not compromise on the quality of our imports and always offer competitive prices to customers across the island. Our services have been consistently prompt and reliable, leading to 37 years of customer satisfaction – since the establishment of Janatha Steels,” affirms the Chairman of Janatha Steels Subramanium Vasudevan.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with hardware suppliers and customers is a fundamental aspect of Janatha Steels’ business philosophy. The organisation’s commitment to quality is a key factor in supplier relationships. It maintains open communication channels, ensuring that suppliers understand Janatha Steels’ stringent quality standards and expectations.
By promoting transparency and trust, the company fosters an environment that’s conducive to collaborative problem solving and continuous improvement.
As for its customers, Janatha Steels’ dedication to offering competitive prices and quality products is only the beginning. The company prioritises excellent customer service including prompt responses to inquiries, efficient order processing and reliable after sales support.
Its longstanding presence in the market is a testimony to the organisation’s track record of customer satisfaction. Over the years, Janatha Steels has forged strong bonds with customers, gaining insights into their evolving needs and preferences. This enables the company to tailor its offering, providing customers with personalised experiences.
Janatha Steels’ strategies for building strong relationships revolve around unwavering commitment to quality, transparent communication, competitive pricing, exceptional customer service and a decades long history of reliability.
