Rs. 2.20 Million CSR Initiative Provides Sustainable Access to Safe Drinking Water for Children and the Surrounding Community
Seylan Developments PLC marked World Children’s Day on 1 October 2026 by handing over a newly installed Reverse Osmosis (RO) Drinking Water Purification Plant, valued at approximately Rs. 2.20 million, to Mu/Kalyanipura Vidyalaya in Welioya, Mullaitivu District.
Expected to reduce the school’s dependence on externally purchased drinking water, the new RO plant is set to provide a reliable and consistent source of purified water for students, staff, and the surrounding community. Resolving difficulties faced by the school in obtaining a consistent supply of purified drinking water, the installation of the RO plant emphasises the right of consistent access to safe drinking water, the health and well-being.
Undertaken, in collaboration with Nayagara Water & Technology, Padaviya, with the approval and continued encouragement of the valued shareholders of Seylan Developments PLC, the initiative is the fourth CSR project undertaken by Seylan Developments PLC, reaffirming the company’s continued commitment in supporting communities through practical, meaningful, and sustainable initiatives.
Commenting on the initiative, Anuja Ratnaayake, Chief Executive Officer of Seylan Developments PLC, said, “Access to safe drinking water is a fundamental need, particularly for children. We are pleased that our fourth CSR project addresses an essential requirement of Mu/Kalyanipura Vidyalaya while also extending its benefits to the surrounding community. We believe that meaningful CSR initiatives like this should create practical, lasting value and impact for the communities we serve.”
Prior to the installation of the RO plant, the school had to navigate financial and logistical challenges in purchasing approximately 500 litres of purified drinking water each week from Ethawatunuwewa, located nearly 10 kilometres away. In establishing the RO plant, the initiative also resolves concerns related to chronic kidney disease by making access to safe drinking water easier.
The Board of Directors wishes to place on record its sincere appreciation to the shareholders for their continued support in enabling the company to undertake meaningful and sustainable CSR projects. Ramesh Jayasekara, Chairman of Seylan Developments PLC, together with the Board and management, aim to continue supporting initiatives that address essential community needs and create tangible and sustainable social value.
The handover ceremony was attended by Mrs. Gillian Edwards and Ranil Dissanayake, Directors of Seylan Developments PLC; together with Anuja Ratnaayake, Chief Executive Officer; and staff members of the Company.
The handover of the RO Drinking Water Purification Plant on World Children’s Day 2026 marks another milestone in Seylan Developments PLC’s ongoing CSR programme, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting children, strengthening communities, and contributing to sustainable development across Sri Lanka.
