BECOMING CAREER READY WITH DEAKIN UNIVERSITY, AUSTRALIA DEGREE PATHWAYS AT THE ROYAL INSTITUTE OF COLOMBO

Since establishing a licensing partnership in 2012, Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) and Deakin University, Australia have uplifted the aspirations of Sri Lankan students. This collaboration has offered learners the choice of pursuing their undergraduate studies in the areas of science, engineering and the environment, through the licensed pathway and blended learning models.

The partnership of over a decade has provided invaluable opportunities for students pursuing their tertiary studies and every year, RIC students graduate in Australia from one of Deakin’s Victoria-based campuses with prospects for graduate employment, as well as further study.

Why choose RIC to pursue the Deakin Pathway Programme?
With a reputation of academic excellence spanning over 40 years, RIC holds its integrity as a world-class education provider of highly sought after international degree programmes from the University of London and Deakin University, Australia.

RIC remains true to its mission of providing students with global opportunities through quality education, academic scholarships and employability. Being the only institute to provide the Deakin University curriculum in Sri Lanka for degrees in this pathway programme, RIC equips students with the skills required to settle well into the Australian study culture and perform better academically.

Why get a degree from Deakin University?

The degree adds value to students as Deakin is among the top one percent of universities worldwide according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2022. It is Victoria’s best public university for educational experience, teaching quality and student support according to the 2020 Student Experience Survey by UA benchmark group Victorian universities.

What is the cost advantage you get at RIC?
Students on the RIC-Deakin Pathway can save up to 60 percent of tuition expenses for an engineering degree and up to 40 percent of tuition expenses for a science degree when compared to starting at Deakin directly.

Moreover, they have the option of completing their entire Deakin University degree programme at RIC in Sri Lanka with the exclusive 50 percent Cloud Deakin tuition bursary. In addition to this tremendous cost benefit, students can further save approximately Australian Dollars 21,500 each year on living and accommodation costs.

Over 10 years of a trusted and collaborative partnership
RIC and Deakin University have shared a truly synergetic relationship over the years. The past decade has refined a high quality learning experience and teaching environment for the pathway students follow with a seamless transition to Deakin in Australia.

A highlight of the past year was RIC being awarded the ‘Recruiter of the Year 2021’ accolade by Deakin University at the Friends of Deakin Evening 2022. This award recognises a Deakin University partner, that has surpassed expectations in terms of enrolments, quality of applications and conversions.

The RIC-Deakin partnership has also provided the opportunity to collaborate on special, meaningful projects. For the past three years, RIC has exclusively hosted the Deakin ‘Young Environmentalists’ Challenge’ (YEC).

The competition, which is now in its fourth year, provides an exciting global platform for secondary school students to identify innovative solutions to environmental issues in their communities. YEC has enjoyed great success and the winning school teams have gone on to patent their inventions. Furthermore, YEC was awarded the 2021 Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s Award for ‘Outstanding contribution to community partnerships.’

What do our graduates have to say?
“One of the important highlights of my student life was receiving the Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for the year 2020. The scholarship is given to an outstanding student who performs academically well while balancing extracurricular activities. It covers 50 percent of the tuition fees at Deakin University, which is huge and also provides the opportunity to participate in the Vice-Chancellor’s Professional Excellence Programme. I received it based on my performance during the first two years at RIC and it has been greatly rewarding.”
