Sri Lanka will look to earn an ambitious US$ 200 million in the global boat and shipping export sector by 2022 as it continues to record strong growth, stated Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen at the launch of Boat Show Sri Lanka 2018.

He noted that while the sector has slowed down due to global economic pressures, Sri Lankan boatbuilders and exporters have increased export revenues.

According to Bathiudeen, the boat show is the first marine festival in Sri Lanka organised to showcase the country’s capabilities in marine tourism, recreational boating and yachting, boat building and related services for the export and local markets.

The sector is one of the priority sectors to be actively promoted in the new national export strategy with Rs. 100 million allocated in Budget 2018 for initial activities to promote investment in infrastructure development.
