The fifth annual edition of the Most Awarded celebrates Sri Lanka’s most accomplished business enterprises
In this special LMD edition, we shine the light on Sri Lanka’s ‘Most Awarded’ organisations – businesses that made their mark in 2024 by earning the most number of corporate accolades. It is in a sense a tribute to corporates and industry leaders who have consistently set the bar for excellence both at home and away from our shores.
They have driven growth, sparked innovation and shaped the next chapter of Sri Lanka’s corporate sector.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon (ComBank) has proven its dominance to wear the crown as Sri Lanka’s Most Awarded organisation with an outstanding 115 accolades. Retaining its position at the summit for the second year in a row, ComBank surpassed its 2023 record of 106 awards, setting a new milestone in its journey of excellence.
Talawakelle Tea Estates rises to second place, up from No. 3 last year, with 93 awards; it continues to show a strong upward trajectory in the competitive plantation sector.
Amana Takaful and Asia Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) – the latter making its debut in 2024 – both claim third position with 49 awards each, reflecting their growing influence in their respective fields.
And in a remarkable leap, Unilever Sri Lanka jumps from 22nd place in 2023 to fifth in this edition with 48 awards, highlighting the exceptional strides it has taken in both innovation and sector leadership. Softlogic Life Insurance follows closely behind, securing sixth place with a tally of 43 awards.
People’s Bank holds steady at No. 7, earning 42 awards – a testament to its continued excellence in banking services. Meanwhile, Kelani Valley Plantations climbs to eighth place with 37 accolades.
Hayleys Fabric makes an impressive leap from 25th place to ninth, grabbing 35 awards, while Hatton National Bank (HNB), Pan Asia Banking Corporation and People’s Leasing & Finance round out the top 10 with 33 awards apiece.
These rankings reflect the diversity and strength of Sri Lanka’s business landscape with many companies setting new standards of excellence in their sectors.
Leading this edition’s movers and shakers is Fonterra Brands Lanka, which soars from 132nd place in 2023 to 40th a year later. Following closely behind is Brandix Lanka, which secures 44th place in 2024 with 15 awards, after sharing the spot with Fonterra last year.
The sector breakdown reveals that the food and beverage sector leads with 75 companies, followed by manufacturing (61). Diversified sectors rank third with 40 companies while technology (28) and retail (26) complete the top five.
The 2024 awards highlight the vibrancy of Sri Lanka’s business ecosystem with listed corporations bagging a remarkable 1,440 awards, followed by private companies with 878. Multinational organisations secured 389 awards while state owned entities (SOEs) contributed 124 to the pool of accolades.
