PIM on a Journey to Being the Business School for the New World with Appointment of Dr. Asanga Ranasinghe as the Director
Wednesday 8th May 2024, Colombo: With a vision of making the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) into a world class post-graduate management school, renowned industry professional Dr. Asanga Ranasinghe assumed duties as the Director, PIM. The duty assumption ceremony was held at the PIM premises in Colombo 08.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman, University Grants Commission, Senior Professor Pathmalal Manage, Vice Chancellor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Lalith Weeratunge, Former Secretary to His Excellency the President, Dr. Harsha Cabral, Chairman of National Savings Bank and President’s Counsel in Sri Lanka, Dr. Ravi Liyanage, Chairman of Raigam Group, Dr. W K H Wegapitiya, Chairman of Laugfs Holdings Limited, Registrar and Bursar, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Members of the Board of Management and Board of Study of the Institute, PIM Faculty & Staff, Members of the PIM Alumni Association and current Batch Representatives of the Institute.
Speaking at the ceremony Dr. Ranasinghe noted, “my vision for PIM is to make it the center for management excellence to suit the new world by creating value in people and organisations. We thrive to do this by innovative teaching and learning, insightful and relevant research and publications, enriching collaborations and partnerships, and futuristic capacity building and leadership development, enabled via assured quality, exemplary governance and inspiring sustainability “.
Dr. Ranasinghe is a professional with a breadth of both industry and academic experience for over 30 years with proven leadership success both in Sri Lanka and internationally with a high level of managerial competence across the value chain in the fields of Corporate Strategy, Marketing, Sales and Customer Development, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Research & Development. His work experience spans across diverse industries such as FMCG, LPG, Petroleum/ Lubricants, Automobile, Agriculture and Modern Retail. He also possesses close to a decade long postgraduate teaching experience and contributes to continuous professional development of self and others in the fraternity in management, marketing and strategy. A degree in Chemistry was followed by academic and professional and postgraduate qualifications in marketing and management. His doctorate is on Shopper Marketing, which is a fast-emerging field in business. He has also been able to publish in both local and international journals as well as contribute as a regular writer to business magazines. He is currently a senior lecturer at PIM, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Dr. Ranasinghe is also the current Chairman of Sri Lanka Standards Institution.
