The Ishq Villa in Talpe is informal, homely and custom-made. This family owned villa takes its name from the Arabic word for love or passion. Located along Galle’s ‘French Riviera,’ Ishq Villa is a four bedroom luxury villa that was built in the 1990s as a part of the original fabric of the island’s first luxury villas. Today, it marries a love for clean design with oceanic hues, and brings together all the comforts of a boutique hotel with the privacy and exclusivity of a private villa. The old structure was fully renovated both aesthetically and structurally with the addition of a modern wing that overlooks the Indian Ocean. Enclosed in glass on all sides, it seamless-ly connects with the existing courtyard house. Many elements of the old villa were reused through the creative application of colour and texture. The colour palette, material finishes and furniture were selected with care by the team at PWA Architects led by Philip Weeraratne and Ashan Algama. And the furniture was hand-picked in Bali. And finally, the architecture and interior design generate a sense of timelessness, which contribute to the experience of living in a contemporary beach villa.
