Mr. Ajith Peiris Takes Over the Reins of NSB as GM/CEO

Mr. Ajith W Peiris assumed his duties as GM/CEO of National Savings Bank last Monday. The event took place at NSB Head Office following a simple religious ceremony. The Chairperson of NSB Mrs. Kesila Jayawardana and the Members of the Board of Directors of the Bank, former Acting GM/CEO, Members of the Bank’s Corporate and Executive Management, past Chairpersons, General Managers, Members of the Bank’s Trade Unions and well-wishers participated in this occasion.

Former DGM (Operations) of the Bank Mr. Ajith Peiris has been appointed as the 17th GM/CEO of National Savings Bank with effect from 12th October 2020.

Mr. Peiris succeeds Mrs. R M Damitha K Ratnayake, who was functioning as the Acting GM/CEO of NSB.

Mr. Peiris is a professionally qualified and a sound banker with a proven track record. He is a master of his trade and has to his credit an illustrious banking career of over 32 years at NSB. Since joining the Bank as a Management Trainee in 1988, he has been serving in  many strategically important spheres including the Branch Operations, Branch Administration, the Retail Credit Sector, International Banking, Postal Banking and has held several key positions in the likes of Branch Manager, Zonal Manager, Assistant General Manager, and Deputy General Manager before his elevation to the position of General Manager/CEO.

Mr. Peiris has been instrumental in successfully implementing key projects in the Bank in his capacity as DGM (Operations), shouldering the responsibility of achieving the corporate objectives of the Bank. He has also immensely contributed towards establishing the International Banking Unit of the Bank and bringing it to the present standard. Further, he has the credit of being the 1st Manager of the Ja-ela Loan Center which was inaugurated under the Loan Center concept of the Bank in the year 2007.

He is a 1st Class Honors B.Sc. Degree holder in Physical Science from the University of Colombo and a Member of the Association of Professional Bankers, the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Institute of Credit Management and the Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Development.

Mr. Peiris is a firm believer of continues professional development and has attended top-level industry seminars representing the Bank Locally and Internationally.

Using the wide exposure and expertise he has gathered in the Banking Sector over the years, Mr. Peiris is gearing up to spearhead the Bank towards a Digital Transformation, which is a sine qua non, if the Bank is to thrive in the industry in the years to come.

Mr. Peiris is a keen sportsman and has represented the Cricket Team of the Bank from 1989 to 2005.
