NDB Supports Mrs. Janaki Fernando’s Remarkable Triumph at South Asia Masters Athletics Open Championship 2025

NDB Bank proudly extended its support to Mrs. Janaki Fernando, a seasoned athlete representing Sri Lanka at the South Asia Masters Athletics Open Championship 2025, held in India from the 10th to the 12th of January. Mrs. Fernando achieved an extraordinary feat, winning five gold medals and making Sri Lanka proud on an international stage.

Mrs. Fernando’s journey in athletics began at the young age of nine at Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo. Demonstrating exceptional versatility, she earned school colors in five sports: tennis, badminton, basketball, netball, and athletics. Her dedication and resilience have been evident throughout her career, with notable achievements both locally and internationally, including a silver medal in the Javelin Throw under the 75+ years category in 2023. In 2019, she achieved remarkable success at the Brunei Masters Open Championship, winning a gold medal in Javelin Throw and two bronze medals in Discus Throw and Shot Put. Earlier that same year, she also claimed gold in Javelin Throw at the Open Championship in Thailand. Her achievements at the 2017 Asian Games in China were equally impressive, as she won three silver medals in Javelin Throw, Hammer Throw, and Discus Throw. On the global stage, Mrs. Fernando holds an impressive 14th world ranking in both Javelin and Hammer Throw at the World Masters Athletic Championship.
