MORISON

Managing Director
Morison, a trusted name in Sri Lanka’s pharmaceutical industry, has a legacy of over 60 years in manufacturing and distributing high quality medicines and over-the-counter products. As a subsidiary of Hemas Holdings, Morison is committed to uplifting lives through premium quality yet affordable healthcare solutions, driven by a strong local manufacturing footprint. Morison strives to play a key role in strengthening the nation’s healthcare sector by manufacturing some of the latest therapies in the noncommunicable diseases (NCD) space, for the first time in Sri Lanka.
Q: In what ways do you foster a culture of respect within the organisation and ensure that it is sustained over the years?
A: I believe respect is earned when an organisation truly walks the talk. At Morison, our purpose – making premium healthcare affordable – is more than a statement on the wall; it’s a principle we try to live by every day in how we engage with employees, customers, investors and suppliers.
We are committed to delivering a rare combination of quality and affordability in the medicines we manufacture, creating a meaningful impact on the lives of Sri Lankans.
In an industry as sensitive and responsible as ours, doing the right thing – even when no one is watching – is non-negotiable. I believe that a conscious and unwavering commitment to integrity and accountability is what sustains a lasting culture of respect over time.

Q: What does it take for corporates to earn the respect of their stakeholders in times of turbulence and volatility?
A: Turbulence or volatility is when a company’s true character is revealed. A few years ago at Morison, we faced a major setback when a sudden policy shift resulted in the loss of a substantial portion of our government business.
Instead of stepping back or taking any shortcuts, we reaffirmed our purpose and entered the private market with a bold value proposition – building a pharmaceutical brand that challenged industry norms. I believe that when you remain grounded in your core values, stakeholders take notice and they rally around you even in times of crisis.
Q: How does the company communicate its ethos for earning and maintaining respect to employees?
A: At Morison, we communicate our ethos of respect through a consistent win-win philosophy. We believe our purpose is powerful enough to unite people – especially at a time when Sri Lanka is battling an epidemic of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and cardiovascular conditions.
While many point fingers at policy, we choose to challenge an import heavy market by proving that world-class pharmaceutical manufacturing is possible right here at home. It begins with trusting our young team, giving them the space to grow and letting them experience what we stand for while giving back to our team as we grow.
I believe that when employees feel part of a purpose driven journey – something greater than themselves – and trust that the leadership will make decisions with due care and integrity, respect follows naturally. It doesn’t need to be demanded.
Q: How do you envision the future for Morison?
A: I see the organisation playing a pivotal role in shaping Sri Lanka’s pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape – not merely through scale but by being a catalyst for purpose driven and ethical progress.
Our new state-of-the-art pharma manufacturing and research facility at Homagama provides a strong foundation, and we are in the process of launching many niche and novel molecules, making advanced treatments affordable across the country.
We envision becoming the trusted first choice for medical professionals who seek the very best for their patients. As we continue to build capabilities and achieve international accreditations, I believe Morison is well positioned to step confidently onto the global stage – taking Sri Lankan pharmaceutical excellence to the world.
Morison is a purpose driven pharmaceutical manufacturer committed to quality, integrity, novelty and affordable healthcare. With a strong local manufacturing base and global aspirations, it fosters a culture of respect and trust – while striving to redefine industry standards and uplift the healthcare landscape in Sri Lanka.
