Plans have been finalised to implement an electric train service in the island. According to Deputy Minister Ashok Abeysinghe, the Colombo Suburban Train Project was launched on 7 July and will be a five-year project under five stages.
A Project Management Unit and Technical Committee have been established, with necessary staff being recruited as well. Plans include recruiting more staff for the acquisition of lands and social security activities.
