Designed by Richard Dorman, the Seidenbaum Residence has been listed by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as one of the greatest pieces of architecture in Los Angeles to be created between 1947 and 1967.

This tour de force is the recipient of the Grand Prix Award and it’s now for sale for the first time in 45 years – it is priced at US$ 16.5 million.

Only a block above Sunset Boulevard, the Seidenbaum Residence covers half a hectare with two combined properties being sold as one. Tucked away down a long private deeded driveway, this mid-century modern style home was recently restored and enhanced by architect John Bertram.

The Seidenbaum Residence has a large flat yard, which is rare in the area, and a gently sloping hillside of specimen trees that frame the estate. These features provide extreme privacy and the feeling of living in a garden that’s far away from the crowded city.

It has large garden boxes for growing vegetables, fruits and flowers; and halfway up the hillside, there’s a second flat pad that’s large enough for a studio or children’s play area, or for outdoor entertaining.

The 6,151 square foot home comprises six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, natural wood floors and beams with high ceilings, white walls and sliding walls of glass that usher in light throughout the house.

And downstairs, there are four large guest suites, a gym-cum-office, a spacious formal dining room, a den, a two storey entry gallery and an open kitchen-family room surrounded by glass walls.

A master suite, which is upstairs, has dual walk-in closets, double spa-like baths, a large lounge area and a private office. There’s also an additional guest suite above the garage.

Though the peace and quiet of the property seems far from city activity, all the conveniences of Brentwood’s shopping, dining, schools, biking and hiking are available, for both residents and visitors.

This is a popular residential area for celebrities, and the new owner of the home may have an opportunity to rub shoulders with celebrity neighbours such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, LeBron James, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen.
