Declaration of assets is an issue that majority of the politicians have dodged. Therefore, it is a must that all politicians be compelled to declare their assets. The only way to do this is to enforce a rule that requires all politicians to submit the ‘declaration of assets’ before being sworn into office as a member of a local authority, provincial council or the parliament. Otherwise, his election to the post should be automatically cancelled.
The politicians who are in default must also be disqualified from contesting in future elections at any level for at least a period of five years. Further, legal action should be instituted against the defaulters who are already in office and heavy penalties should be imposed. The big question is whether the politicians themselves will pass such legislation in parliament to give effect to these penal provisions.
The law of the land must be properly administered, and this should apply to everyone including politicians. It is quite absurd that there are different rules for them and for us. This must change.

The approach should be firm where leading and practicing by example – by the President and senior politicians – is enforced and overseen. There should be a mechanism where compliance on declaring for assets can be turned around as an incentive in terms of qualitative aspects, where a plus factor will be assigned on the governance of the respective politician.

The prevailing situation is that the government cannot collect the taxable revenue. In other words, the government is purposely acting blind to the fallacies.
