AND SO IT BEGINS: SHERATON KOSGODA TURTLE BEACH RESORT LEADS THE HOLIDAY CALENDAR

It was impossible not to feel the festive cheer and excitement flowing through the lobby of Sheraton Kosgoda Turtle Beach Resort. Marking the start of the season, the resort recently hosted the year’s first Christmas cake mixing event in Sri Lanka’s leisure sector on the island’s southern coast.

Transformed into a miniature replica of the North Pole, the resort’s lobby brought together its culinary team, in-house guests and leadership to take part in one of the festive period’s most beloved and nostalgic traditions.

The resonant notes of Scottish bagpipes announced the arrival of Executive Chef Prasanna Wimalasurendra and his team, alongside the resort’s management led by General Manager Mano Gunesekera, to commence the cake mixing ceremony – a traditional with roots in 17th century British colonial origins.

Presented in holiday hues of green, berry red and signature plaid motifs, barrels and boxes filled with diced cake ingredients were poured into a larger-than-life mixing barrel. Guests were invited to don holiday themed aprons and Santa hats, and join in the time-honoured ritual of hand mixing the warm spices, preserved fruit, earthy nuts and other ingredients that would undergo the ageing process required to create this quintessential Christmas staple.

The rich aroma of the decadent fruit and exotic spices, mingling with seasonal melodies, set the tone for an evening of laughter and merriment and the months ahead. Immersed in the North Pole wonderland, guests were offered an early opportunity to embrace the Yuletide spirit complemented by a selection of champagne, wine and signature cocktails.

The drinks were accompanied by an array of Christmas cookies, indulgent mince pies dusted with icing sugar and delicate savoury canapés, delivering the promised holiday magic. A delightful twist was Sheraton’s unique Arrack Yaara Tea topped with whipped cream, adding a touch of tropical flair to the celebrations.

Whether you are driving along the country’s picturesque southern coast or flying in for a sunny holiday this season, Sheraton Kosgoda Turtle Beach Resort is prepared to satisfy every nostalgic holiday longing, from culturally inspired dishes to creating cherished memories, ensuring that all is merry and bright.
