An Area Development Programme focuses on a distinct geographical area for 15 – 20 years and undertakes many development related projects by partnering with various stakeholders to improve the well-being of children.

The Area Development Programme which was established on the 1st of January 2000 had assisted close to 31,103 people directly or indirectly, out of which 3,880 children received direct benefits through the child sponsorship programme.  The Wennappuwa ADP has helped  21 villages under the purview of the Wennappuwa and Dankotuwa Divisional Secretariats during it’s 20-year operational period.  The ADP was able to support many projects relating to Health, Nutrition, Education and Economic Development.

Dhanan Senathirajah, National Director of World Vision Lanka noted, “The Wennappuwa ADP is a great example of World Vision Lanka working together with the government and the community to help children take an active role with their families in building lives free of need and full of promise. As we transition, our vision remains: life for every child in all its fullness; and our prayer; for every heart is the will to make it so. We rejoice as lives are being changed for good and we wait in anticipation to hear of new transformational stories, as they unfold.”

World Vision works to create a Child-Friendly Society based on communities of trust; where each child has hope, equal opportunity and is empowered to fulfill his/her full potential.
