World Vision Lanka to support 40,000 families during COVID-19

 

07th April 2020, COLOMBO – As a part of its efforts to support the Government’s response to COVID-19, World Vision Lanka is assisting 40,000 families in 30 locations around the country with dry ration packs.

So far, 12,876 dry ration packs have been distributed in 16 locations in 8 districts.

“In this response, World Vision will focus on the most vulnerable families especially those who depend on daily wages and who are unable to engage in their livelihood due to the prevailing situation,” says Urmila Selvanayagama, Response Manager World Vision Lanka.

In addition World Vision has also provided, 2000 water bottles and 4 mobile toilets to the Chilaw Quarantine Centre, 5 Litre cans of hand sanitizer and disinfectant liquid and 10 N95 masks and 100 surgical masks to the Dematagoda Police, 500 100ml hand sanitizers to the Regional Directorate of Health Services, Polonnaruwa, 80 N95 masks to COVID – 19 testing labs in Sri Jayawardenapura and 100 overalls and goggles, 80 gumboots to the Regional Directorate of Health services, Monaragala.

World Vision has also commenced a rupee-for-rupee match-funding initiative, inviting also the corporate and individual donors and the public to become a part of supporting families in need. World Vision’s response in this crisis is to support Government’s response to COVID-19 emergency.

WVL works in 34 locations in 15 Districts across Sri Lanka directly impacting nearly 100,000 vulnerable children and their families.
