Trinity College Batch of 92’ supports World Vision’s COVID- 19 relief efforts
The Old boys from Batch of 92 of Trinity College Kandy partnered with World Vision to provide dry ration packs for 1,020 families in the Miyanagolla DS Division, Kandy who are affected by the current emergency situation in the country.
The contribution was made as part of World Vision’s new match funding initiative “Every rupee you give is doubled” – where the humanitarian organization will match every public contribution.
Due to the curfew brought about by the COVID-19 health emergency, families who depend on daily wages are unable to continue their livelihood and struggle to purchase even the basic food for their families.
“We are facing the greatest pandemic of the century and it is time to support those in need. As a united set of individuals, the TCK Batch of 92 rose to the occasion and extended support to 1,020 families in Kandy district, when they needed it most. What’s unique is the agility and pace we moved from an idea to execution. I am extremely thankful to all the batch mates who are residing here and those overseas for the generous support. We appreciate and thank World Vision Lanka, for partnering us on this project and for their professionalism and commitment. said Tharanga Gunasekera, Project Chairman, TCK Batch of 92
As a part of World Vision’s response to the emergency, over 42,000 families identified in 35 locations around the country will be provided with dry ration packs sufficient for one week and for some areas, two weeks. So far, the distribution has completed for nearly 40,000 families. World Vision Lanka is carrying out the response through the government authorities at the grassroots level and is inviting everyone to become a part of supporting families in need.
“The members of the TCK Batch of 92 have demonstrated that their nationality is ‘humanity’ and their religion is ‘love’. Respice Finem!” comments Chandimal Mendis, Board Chair of World Vision Lanka.
