Urban Island Opens The Art Room with Inaugural Exhibition by Rochelle Fernando
Urban Island officially launched The Art Room, a space dedicated to showcasing Sri Lanka’s emerging creative voices, with an inaugural exhibition by Sri Lankan-born, Italy-educated, AOD alumni, artist Rochelle Fernando. The launch was marked by the presence of dignitaries, members of Colombo’s creative community, and invited guests, who gathered to celebrate this unique space for Colombo’s creative landscape.
Housed within Urban Island’s Colombo store, The Art Room is designed as an intimate and reflective environment for audiences to engage with the art. The space will host exhibitions that bring together Sri Lankan talent, highlighting the diversity, vibrancy, and global relevance of the island’s creative expression.
The inaugural exhibition presents Rochelle’s latest works, which merge architectural sensibilities with painterly expression. Her practice explores the interplay of texture, fluidity, and geometry, balancing emotion and structure to create compositions that feel both organic and intentional.
With the launch of The Art Room, Urban Island reaffirms its mission to elevate Sri Lanka’s creative talent providing a platform for local creatives and makers to be celebrated at home while building pathways to the global stage.
