Q: What inspired the creation of The Beauty Quest and how does it set itself apart in the competitive beauty sector?

A: Embarking on my journey at The Beauty Quest was inspired by a desire to empower women and celebrate diversity. It was sculpted out of sheer creativity and passion, an intimate understanding of style, an unwavering commitment to quality and an eye for detail that discerns the exquisite from the merely ordinary.

It’s about creating an ambience that whispers elegance at every corner, ensuring every client feels not only seen but celebrated.

Q: Can you elaborate on how your previous experience in the airline sector influenced your approach to personal consultations – and what benefits do these one-on-one sessions offer?

A: My background in grooming requisites in the airline sector instilled in me a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of the importance of presenting oneself professionally. During personal consultations, I draw on this experience to offer tailored advice on how individuals can enhance their appearance and confidence.

These one-on-one sessions provide a unique opportunity to address specific concerns and offer personalised guidance, ultimately empowering individuals to present the best version of themselves, both professionally and personally.

Q: How has Sri Lanka’s economic crisis impacted the country’s journey towards gender equity?

A: The economic crisis in Sri Lanka had a profound impact on the country’s journey towards gender equity, particularly concerning the sacrifices made by women for their families. As economic hardships intensify, women often find themselves bearing a disproportionate burden, sacrificing their own needs for the wellbeing of their families.

This can manifest in various ways including reduced access to education and healthcare for women, increased caregiving responsibilities and limited economic opportunities.

Consequently, the crisis exacerbates existing gender disparities, hindering progress towards gender equity. However, it also underscores the urgent need for inclusive policies and support systems to alleviate the disproportionate impact on women, and promote gender equity in the country’s recovery efforts.

Q: How do you view this year’s International Women’s Day theme – ‘Inspire Inclusion’?

A: This year’s International Women’s Day theme – Inspire Inclusion – is incredibly powerful and timely. It serves as a reminder of the importance of creating a world where all women – regardless of their background, identity or circumstances – feel valued, empowered and included.

Inspire Inclusion actively encourages us to seek out and amplify the voices and experiences of marginalised women, ensuring that their perspectives are heard and respected.

It also challenges us to dismantle barriers to inclusion and promote diversity in all aspects of life – from the workplace to communities and beyond. This theme calls upon us to work together to build a more inclusive and equitable society where every woman can thrive.

Q: SMEs took a hit from the economic crisis and are trying to rise again… How should Sri Lanka support its female entrepreneurs today?

A: Supporting female entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka is crucial for driving economic recovery, and fostering gender equity and inclusive growth.

In the wake of economic challenges and the need for recovery, prioritising certain measures such as access to finance, providing training, mentorship and networking opportunities specifically designed for female entrepreneurs to enhance their business skills is vital.

So are implementing policies and regulations, and facilitating access to domestic and international markets, which can create enabling environments for female entrepreneurs.

Q: What is your vision for businesswomen in Sri Lanka in 2024 – and beyond?

A: My vision for businesswomen in Sri Lanka in 2024 – and beyond – is one of empowerment, opportunity and equality. I envision a future where women entrepreneurs are thriving, leading innovative businesses across diverse sectors. And I hope to see more women in Sri Lanka succeeding with ease.

To realise this vision, I believe it’s crucial to implement targeted support programmes for women entrepreneurs – providing access to funding, mentorship and training opportunities.
