The Bank of Ceylon (BOC) Ran Liya Loan Scheme continues to provide essential financial support and business guidance to women entrepreneurs, helping them sustain and expand their businesses. One such success story is that of Kanaka Nishani Abeygunawardhana, Managing Director of Majestic Beach Retreat, who overcame financial challenges and revitalised her hospitality business with the help of the scheme.
Majestic Beach Retreat, located in Thalawila area, is a boutique holiday destination featuring three villas designed to provide a tranquil getaway for both local and international travelers. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted the tourism industry, Aayegunawardhana faced substantial financial losses. Even after reopening to domestic travelers, she encountered another significant challenge—the absence of a swimming pool, which limited her ability to attract guests looking for a complete vacation experience.
Recognising the need to improve her retreat’s facilities, she turned to the BOC Ran Liya Loan Scheme, which provided the necessary financial assistance to construct a swimming pool and enhance the overall appeal of the property. The investment allowed her to regain business momentum, attract more visitors, and achieve financial stability once again.
“The Bank of Ceylon didn’t just provide financial support and step away. They continuously guided me on how to properly manage my investment and make the most of it,” Abeygunawardhana shared. “The support I received was a turning point in my business.”
She extended her appreciation to the staff of the Bank of Ceylon, particularly those from the Bank of Ceylon Chilaw Loan Center led by Oshada Ekanayake and Kalpitiya Branch, for their continued guidance and encouragement. She also acknowledged architect Sampath Senarath Arachchi, who designed a unique swimming pool on top of two dunes without disturbing the natural environment, enhancing the eco-tourism approach, the property is trying to introduce.
Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, she encouraged other women who aspire to start or grow their businesses to explore the BOC Ran Liya Loan Scheme as a valuable financial resource.
“If women are thinking of starting a business, the first place they should go for financial support is the Bank of Ceylon. They offer guidance that helps turn business ideas into reality. The Bank of Ceylon has been a reliable and supportive institution. I encourage all aspiring business women to visit BOC today and take the first step toward growing their businesses,” she stated.
Abeygunawardhana’s story is part of an effort by the Bank of Ceylon to support women entrepreneurs throughout Sri Lanka. The BOC Ran Liya Loan Scheme has already assisted numerous women-led businesses in scaling operations, increasing productivity, and entering new markets.
Through financial support and professional guidance, the programme continues to play a role in strengthening Sri Lanka’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and enhancing economic participation among women entrepreneurs.
